The HTBLA Hallstatt is a higher federal technical college in the market town of Hallstatt in the Gmunden district in Upper Austria .

history

The lawyer and statesman Johann von Chlumecký (1834–1924) was involved in founding the Hallstatt Wood School . The school year 1873/1874 began with four students with training in wood carving and marble processing. The school was opened by the Imperial and Royal Minister of Commerce Bannhans . In 1881/1882 and 1886/1887, due to the lack of suitable apprenticeships in the economy, the school was expanded to include training in carpentry and wood-turning. In 1904 the foundation stone was laid for a new school building on Kernmagazinplatz, which was consecrated and opened in 1905 and is now used as a theory building. In 1925/1926 a one-year master course for carpenters was started.

From 1938 to 1941 the number of students increased and required an extension. In 1944 the school was relocated due to the war.

In 1948, school operations in Hallstatt were resumed. From 1950 the master class students could take the master craftsman examination in the school. From 1962 to 1967 there were considerations to relocate or close the school, which was successfully averted. A student dormitory was built from 1969 to 1971 and a new workshop building from 1977 to 1982. From 1982 to 1985 the general renovation of the theory building took place.

With the 1982/1983 school year, the traditional Federal Wood School Hallstatt became the HTBLA Hallstatt. In the 1988/1989 school year, the new department for musical instrument making was started. From 1997/1998 the department for interior design and furniture construction was run with two classes.

In 2011 a building negotiation took place for an extension of the theory and workshop building according to the plans of the architectural office Riccione architekten Bortolotti Cede .
