Johann von Chlumecký

Johann von Chlumecký (born March 23, 1834 in Zara , † December 11, 1924 in Bad Aussee ) was an Austrian lawyer and statesman.

Life

He was a son of the Bohemian Gubernialraths and kk Hofraths Anton Chlumecký (1777–1861; since 1827: Anton von Chlumecký, since 1844: Anton Ritter von Chlumecký) and Anna Cozzi, who came from a respected Trieste family. He was the brother of Peter von Chlumecký .

In 1855, Chlumecký received a law degree in Vienna. In 1865 he became a member of the Moravian Landtag, in 1869 a member of the Reichsrat and in 1871 Minister of Agriculture. In 1872 he gave an initiative to found the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and in 1873 to found the Hallstatt Wood School , later the HTBLA Hallstatt , which resulted in the first contact with the Salzkammergut . In 1875 he was Minister of Commerce and gave an initiative to create the state railway system. In 1879 he resigned from civil service. In 1880 he was again active as a member of the Reichsrat and President of the Reichsrat . In 1889 he had a legal collaboration on the Japanese constitution. In 1897 he waived his mandate.

Johann von Chlumecký was married to Leopoldine von Liebenberg. The son Leopold von Chlumecký (1873–1940) came from this marriage .
