Joseph Wolfgang Adam Lasser Knight of Zollheim , from April 1867: Lasser Freiherr von Zollheim (born September 30, 1814 in Weißenbach near Strobl ; † November 18 or 19, 1879 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician.

origin

Josef Lasser comes from the old East Tyrolean-Salzburg knight family of the Lasser von Zollheim . He was born in 1814 in the Weissenbach hammer factory near Strobl . His parents were Benedikt Ritter Lasser von Zollheim (1780–1839) and his wife Catharina Steger (1778–1843). His father was a works foreman, later a manager of the iron hammer mill in Stobl.

Life and work

Lasser studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1838 . He then entered the civil service. In 1848 he was elected to both the Frankfurt National Assembly and the Reichstag , choosing the latter. On the question of the basic discharge , he pushed through a compensation for the manors. He was in charge of the drafting and implementation of the law of September 7, 1848 regarding the abolition of peasant subservience (peasant liberation law).

Under Stadion and Bach he worked in the Ministry of the Interior. In 1860 he was appointed Minister without portfolio , from October 20, 1860 to February 4, 1861 he was Minister of Justice , then until July 27, 1865 in the State Ministry (Minister of State: Anton von Schmerling ) Minister (Head of the Department of Political Administration ).

From 1868 to 1870 he was governor in Tyrol .

From 1861 to 1871 he was also a liberal member of the Salzburg state parliament , for Zell am See and then for the large estates ( 1st2nd and 3rd electoral periods ), where he was elected member of the Reichsrat on April 10, 1861. He later moved to the Landtag of Upper Austria ( 5th electoral term ) and was also elected to the House of Representatives of the Reichsrat.

In 1871 he was named k. k. Interior Minister a leading figure in the Auersperg cabinet . In 1878 he was appointed a member of the manor house .

As minister of justice, his achievements include the "Lasser articles", which forbade the publication of notices about pending court proceedings (RGBl. No. 8/1862, in force until 1981), and as minister of the interior the liberal reform of the electoral law.

Appreciation

Freiherr von Lasser was an honorary citizen of Salzburg , Innsbruck (1869), Bad Ischl (1871) and Steyr (1873).

family

In 1849 he married Antonie Hipper von Hippersthal (* 23 August 1830), a daughter of the Vice-President of the Appeal Court of Baron Anton Hipper von Hippersthal († 1835). The couple had a son and a daughter:

  • Oskar Wolf Adam (born November 12, 1851)
  • Sidonia (1853-1859)
