Kaspar Graf zu Lodron-Laterano (born April 9, 1815 in Innsbruck , † July 19, 1895 in Innsbruck) was an Austrian civil servant, temporarily governor for Tyrol and Vorarlberg and provincial president of Carinthia .

Life

His parents were Alois Graf zu Lodron-Laterano and Castelromano and Maria Anna geb. Countess von Platz, Freiin zu Thurn, his grandfather Franz Josef Graf zu Lodron-Laterano was Governor of Tyrol in 1790/1791 . He studied law at the University of Innsbruck and then embarked on a career as a judge. Initially a councilor for Lower Austrian regional law , later a higher regional judge in Graz , he became president of the regional court in 1864. On May 31, 1870 he was appointed President of Carinthia.

On October 4th, 1870, however, due to his excellent knowledge of Italian and familiarity with the conditions in the South Tyrol, he was appointed governor for Tyrol and Vorarlberg by Emperor Franz Joseph . He was only to hold this office very briefly: He canceled a resolution by the conservative majority of the Bressanone municipal council that wanted six Italian Jesuits to join the municipality, and subsequently dissolved the municipality of Bressanone, which, however, successfully appealed. Count Lodron-Laterano, whose actions were disapproved by the Minister of the Interior, Count Hohenwart , was given early retirement on May 8, 1871. In 1871 he became a Privy Councilor and honorary citizen of the city of Innsbruck, and from 1872 a lifelong member of the manor house . In 1873 he was reactivated and until 1880 he headed the kk provincial government in Carinthia as president.

Liberally minded, however, he rejected any harsh policies against the conservatives. In 1871, for example, he spoke out against the statutory elimination of the clergy from the local school inspectorate. A clumsy approach to school issues and national defense issues aroused public criticism.

Kaspar was married to Karoline geb. Baroness von Enzenberg zum Freyen- and Jöchelsthurn, second marriage to Ludovica Knussert.

The first marriage came from the daughters Pauline (* July 17, 1844) and Emma (* February 5, 1846, married to Hubert, Count of Lodron-Laterano and Castelromano),
the second marriage to Karl Graf zu Lodron-Laterano and Castelromano (born February 15, 1866), who was married to Maria Countess of Lodron-Laterano and Castelromano.
The just mentioned marriage came from Ludwig Graf zu Lodron-Laterano and Castelromano (* March 8, 1898), married to Maria geb. Rossi of Sardagna.
