Alexander von Huebner (diplomat)
Count Alexander von Hübner , actually Josef Hafenbredl (born November 26, 1811 in Vienna , † July 30, 1892 in Vienna) was an Austrian diplomat .
Life
Hübner's real name was Josef Hafenbredl and was Metternich's illegitimate child with the niece of the imperial and royal glass merchant Rohrweck, who had taken him into his house.
Sent by Metternich to Italy on a secret mission as early as 1830, he received permission to call himself Alexander Huebner in 1833 and was employed in Metternich's State Chancellery. In 1837 he went to Paris as secretary of the embassy , in 1841 to Lisbon and in 1844 he became consul general in Leipzig . In 1848 he was in Milan , where he was held hostage during the revolution. In the same year he accompanied the imperial family to Olomouc , where he prepared the state acts for the abdication of Emperor Ferdinand . From 1849 to 1859 he was envoy to Paris, where he took part as Austrian plenipotentiary in the negotiations on the Third Paris Peace to end the Crimean War.
In 1859 Hübner became Minister of Police in Vienna, and from 1865 to 68 he was Austrian ambassador to Rome . In 1879 he became a member of the manor as a representative of the clerical-conservative party. In 1888 he was raised to the rank of count , bearer of the Grand Crosses of the Leopold Order and the Order of the Iron Crown . He was one of the most important conservative statesmen in the monarchy. He has also successfully devoted himself to literary work.
Hübner is buried, like his wife, in the romantic cemetery in Maria Enzersdorf .
