Moritz (Móric) Count Esterházy von Galántha (born September 23, 1807 in Vienna ; † November 8, 1890 in Pirna near Dresden ) was an Austrian diplomat and politician from the Hungarian noble Esterházy family .

Life

He was attaché of the monarchy in Paris , as envoy in The Hague and until 1855 ambassador of the Viennese court to the Pope in Rome for several years . He was married to Princess Poliena Lobkowitz and had one son. In 1861 Esterházy was appointed Minister without a portfolio . He was the foreign policy advisor to Emperor Franz Joseph until 1866 and then participated in the successful compromise negotiations between Austria and Hungary .
