Franz Karl Becke

Franz Karl Freiherr von Becke (born October 31, 1818 in Kolinec , Bohemia ; † January 15, 1870 in Vienna ) was an Austrian civil servant, diplomat, politician and from 1867 to 1870 Austria-Hungary's first joint Minister of Finance .

Life

Franz Karl Becke completed a law degree in Prague and entered the civil service of the Austrian Empire in 1840 . 1846–50 at the Consulate in Galați , 1850 at the Consulate General in Egypt , 1853–56 head of the Consulate General in Constantinople , he was then again in Galați until 1861 as a representative of Austria, Chairman of the Commission for the Regulation of Danube Shipping . From 1861 he acted as Vice President of the Central Sea Authority in Trieste and in 1865 became Section Head in the Ministry of Finance.

Under Prime Minister Richard Belcredi and Friedrich Beust , he was Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance, Minister of Finance in 1867 and, after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of December 24, 1867, joint Minister of Finance of the dual monarchy until his death .
