Peter von Chlumecký
Peter Ritter von Chlumecký ( Czech : Petr rytíř Chlumecký , born March 30, 1825 in Trieste , † March 29, 1863 in Brno ) was a Moravian historian .
Life
Peter von Chlumecký was a son of the Bohemian Gubernialrath and Imperial Court Councilor Anton Ritter von Chlumecký and Anna Cozzi, who came from a respected Trieste family. He was the brother of Johann von Chlumecký .
He spent his youth in Trieste, Zara and Gorizia. In 1837 he moved to Brno with his family . After high school he pursued legal and political studies at the universities of Olomouc and Vienna . In 1846 he first joined the Imperial and Royal District Office, then the Gubernium of Brno and finally became the Imperial and Royal Councilor for Culture and Education. In 1848 he was introduced to the estates' assembly, elected as a state committee member and confirmed in this capacity by the emperor in 1849. In 1854 he was appointed archive director. In the same year he bought the Rzikowitz estate together with his brothers Victor, Jan and Hugo .
In addition to his regional administrative and departmental activities, he made a name for himself as the organizer of the Moravian regional archive and as a sponsor of regional historical research. On the one hand, it is thanks to him that the so-called Boczek Collection , an important collection of original documents and copies made by the Moravian historiographer and class archivist Boczek , was acquired from his estate. On the other hand, Chlumecký made sure that the Codex diplomaticus et epistolaris Moraviae , which Boczek had originally published, was continued by the state archive. Under the direction of Peter Ritter Chlumecký, the archivist Josef Chytil edited volumes 6 and 7 of the Codex for the years 1307 to 1349. In addition, Chlumecký was next to Josef Chytil, Karl Demuth and R. v. Wolfskron involved in the publication of the Moravian country tables, which appeared from 1854 to 1861.
From 1858 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
