Franz Xaver Wirth

Franz Xaver Wirth (born July 21, 1907 in Aurolzmünster ; † September 1992 ) was an Austrian sculptor.

Life, training and work

After attending the elementary school in Andorf , the Schärding community school , he spent his apprenticeship with a local woodcarver and then became a student of sculpture at the Federal School for Woodworking in Hallstatt and worked on various carvings by Josef Furthner in Riedau during the holidays . He studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Anton Hanak and became his close associate. In 1936 he became an employee of Josef Thorak and worked in Munich and Berlin . In 1949 he taught at the Hallstatt Wood School and ran the school for twelve years. After his retirement he returned to Andorf. Wirth was a member of the Innviertel artists' guild .
