Puccinia dovrensis is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the genus Erigeron . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. It iswidespread in the Holarctic .

features

Macroscopic features

Puccinia dovrensis can only be recognized by the naked eye from the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Puccinia dovrensis grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. The spermogonia and aecia of the species are unknown. The same applies to their uredia , they may not be trained. The parts of the species growing on both sides of the surfaces of the host leaves are chocolate brown, confluent and uncovered. The almost golden brown teliospores are two-celled, usually long ellipsoid, warty and mostly 32–46 × 16–24 µm in size. Their stalk is brownish and 5–6 µm long.

distribution

The known range of Puccinia dovrensis includes the northern regions of North America and Eurasia .

ecology

The host plants of Puccinia dovrensis are various common herbs ( Erigeron spp.). The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a development cycle of which only the telia and their host are known. It cannot therefore be said whether she will change host .

Systematics

Puccinia dovrensis was first described by Axel Gudbrand Blytt in 1896 . It is divided into the following varieties :

  • P. dovrensis var. Dovrensis A. Blytt
  • P. dovrensis var. Leptoticha ( JF Hennen ) JF Hennen
  • P. dovrensis var. Russa ( Arthur & Cumm. ) JF Hennen
