The HTL Bau und Design Linz is a higher technical institute in the city of Linz in Upper Austria . The building is a listed building .

history

The former Kaiser Franz Joseph School or Crafts School or Goethe School was built according to the plans of the builder Michael Lettmayr with the Upper Austrian Construction Company from 1890 to 1891. An extension was built on Goethestrasse in 1891 according to the plans of the City Building Office. From 1940 to 1943 the building was extended according to plans by architects Armin Sturmberger and L. Maier and master builder Franz Schild. From 1945 to 1950 the war-damaged parts of the building were rebuilt with the master builder Josef Ertl and the architect Fritz Fanta and the facade was designed in a different way. Today the school building is used by a technical college and an elementary school.

architecture

The monumental, three-sided, free-standing U-shaped structure, set back from the street, has four floors above a basement. In Goethestrasse, the facade is largely structured in a late historical style with representative neo-renaissance forms with risalits and giant pilasters. The high arched portal has a shrine -Rahmung. In the Südtirolerstraße and Schillerstraße, the facade design with a cubic design with monumental risalits and partly with windows with accentuated framing in the Nazi architecture follows.

Inside the building, the walls of the historic foyer are designed with pilasters. The original railing is still partially in place in the stairwell.

In the courtyard of the school there is an abstract stone sculpture by the sculptor Alfred Hager .
