HY is a Japanese J-Pop band. In her home country she is one of the most successful artists of the 2000s to date. They are known as an indie band. The reason for this is not the stylistic orientation, but the fact that in Japan they are not under contract with a major label , but with an independent label .
history
HY was founded in 2000 by five school friends in Okinawa . The band's name, they formed from the first letters of their hometown H igashi- Y akena ( Uruma , Okinawa Prefecture ). As a street musician, they quickly acquired a fan base and in 2001 released their debut album “Departure”. The print run of 50,000 copies quickly sold out, so that it was republished in 2002. In the same year the band completed their first tour through Japan, performed in Paris and played as the opening act for Linkin Park in Budokan . Her second album "Street Story" became a top seller and rose to number 1 on the Japanese album charts. The follow-up albums released in 2004 and 2005 were also number one. The 2006 tour was completely sold out, and a show was broadcast on Japanese television. This was followed by appearances in the USA and Canada in 2007 . The fifth album "Hearty" was released in 2008 and reached number 2 on the charts. A tour through five stadiums followed in autumn 2008 .
