Habenhauser dike

Habenhauser dike with bird sanctuary

The habenhauser dike in Bremen forms the southwest boundary of the Weser floodplain from the Buntentorsdeichschart upstream to Weser kilometer 359 (border of the districts Arsten and habenhausen ), where it continues uninterrupted as the Arster Weser dike. Together, they form the most important flood protection in the Obervieland district of Bremen . The Weser cycle path runs along both of them . Between the Deichschart and the suburbs of habenhausen, the dyke line used to run further south (Buntentorsdeich) with the inclusion of natural elevations (Werderhöhe). In the 1930s, this section of the dyke was moved forward and straightened. Barracks were built on the building land obtained in this way ( Niedersachsendamm ), which today, however, are largely used for civilian purposes.

On the habenhauser dike, two kilometers above the Weser weir, is the Arsten-habenhausen bird sanctuary with a size of 1 hectare.
