Hadag Nachash

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hadag Nahash (or HaDag Nachasch ; Hebrew הדג נחש) is a successful Israeli hip hop group.

Hadag Nahash are known for their left-wing political texts. The group consists of seven members, the founder and lead rapper is Shaanan Streett.

Name and symbols

Translated, the name means something like "The fish is a snake" ("Ha" means "The", "Dag" means "fish", and "Nachasch" means "snake"). In Israel, "Nahag Chadash" means something like "novice driver" and is stuck on stickers of the same on the back of their cars ( Hebrew נהג חדש). The anagram “HaDag Nachasch” points to the band's ambitions to be a voice of youth.

The ribbon symbol shows a urinating child and comes from the Hebrew idiom, which roughly translates as "where the fish pisses from" (מאיפה משתין הדג) or in other words, “How it's done”.

Music style and hits

Just like other Israeli pop interpreters, for example Tipex or the Idan Raichel Project, HaDag Nahash mix Western pop music and Israeli folk music into a distinctive style somewhere between hip-hop, funk and world music.

Her most famous hit is Shirat Hasticker (שירת הסטיקר, English “The Sticker Song”), which was written by the Israeli author David Grossman . All songlines are political slogans from Israeli stickers and are intended to paint an angry and ironic portrait of life in Israel.

Sod Ha-Hatzlacha ( The Secret of Success ), which can be found on their second album Lazuz ( To Move ) , is currently considered the best song . In addition, the group presented themselves with some songs, especially Hine Ani Ba (Here I come) , in the film Don't mess with the Zohan , which is how they first became known to the western world.

Hadag Nachash have a slight conflict with the Israeli hip-hop star Subliminal , who is more of the right-wing spectrum.
