Hadrosaurus ( ancient Greek : ἁδρός , hadrós - "massive, huge, strong" + σαῦρος, saũros - "lizard") is a genus of bird basin dinosaurs from the Upper Cretaceous in North America. However, the genus is considered a noun dubium , so its validity is uncertain.
Hadrosaurus is the first scientifically described member of the Hadrosauridae family , of which it is a type genus . Hadrosaurus foulkii - named after its discoverer William Parker Foulke - is the only species ( type species ) of the genus.
A Hadrosaurus recovered in 1858 was the first dinosaur in North America to have more than a few teeth found. A skeletal reconstruction of H. foulkii made by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins in 1868 was the first such reconstruction of a dinosaur. The species was declared a state dinosaur of the US state of New Jersey in 1991 .
description
Fossil evidence of Hadrosaurus was found in rocks from the Late Cretaceous Period (about 80 million years ago ) near what is now the New Jersey coast. The dinosaur reached a length of about eight meters. He moved like all Iguanodontia mostly quadruped (four-legged) continued and moved to bipedalism (bipedalism) to achieve a high speed. He was the first dinosaur to be identified with the bipedia, which is common in this fossil group of animals. Like all hadrosaurs (and the avian dinosaurs in general), Hadrosaurus was a herbivore. Its teeth indicate that it was feeding on branches and leaves.
