Haft Mewa or Haft Miweh ( Persian هفت میوه) is a New Year's drink in Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries that is made from seven fruits. In the past, people sprayed themselves with rose water, see Holi . Nowadays, guests are offered the cocktail consisting of the following ingredients .

1000 years ago Nouruz guests were given wine as a refreshing drink. The seven original components of the Nouruz table before the Islamization of Afghanistan began with the letter Sch ( Persian ش):

  • Shahd ( Persian شهد) = Honey
  • Shir ( Persian شیر) = Milk
  • Schaya = fruit
  • Sharbath ( Persian شربت) = Syrup
  • Shame ( Persian شمع) = Candle
  • Schekar or Schirini ( Persian شکر / شیرینی) = Sugar or sweets
  • Schaqaeg or Schaghaegh ( Persian شقاق) = Anemone
