Richard Dobel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Dobel was a German librarian and playwright .

He had already created the "Lexicon of Goethe Quotes" before 1945; the slip manuscript was however the victim of a bomb attack in Hamburg . Through the mediation of his colleague and friend Robert Hohlbaum , Dobel was transferred to the state library in Weimar , now the Duchess Anna Amalia Library , during World War II . So he was able to start the encyclopedia again in Weimar - however, it did not appear in Switzerland until after the Second World War and was now included in the commemorative edition of Goethe's works.

Dobel's Goethe Library was sold by his widow after his death. Parts of it ended up in the Goethe Library Hans Sachse and with his partial estate under Paul Raabe in the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel .
