Ataturk's signature

During the founding years of the Turkish Republic, a Latin-based alphabet was introduced to replace the Perso-Ottoman alphabet used until then . As part of the reforms, Turkish citizens were required to adopt a family name by Law No. 2525 of June 21, 1934 . But even before that, Turkish citizens of Christian and Jewish religious affiliation used surnames - but not Muslims. Mustafa Kemal Pascha himself also had to take a surname and the Grand National Assembly gave him the surname Ataturk , which means "father of the Turks". Many members of parliament, including many of Çerçiyan's former students, suggested that Ataturk adopt a new signature for his name. On a November morning in 1934, these members of parliament presented the Çerçiyan proposal to undertake this task. That night, five signatures prepared that morning were proposed and police officers collected them. Ataturk chose the one with “K. Ataturk ”.
