Hagström Super Swede

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hagstrom Super Swede is a solid body - electric guitars model of the Swedish musical instrument manufacturer Hagström .

history

The Super Swede model was initially manufactured in Sweden from 1958 to 1982. Since the company had to stop production in 1982 due to economic failure, the production of the Super Swede was also interrupted. A new edition of the Hagström Super Swede has been built in the USA since 2005. A cheaper version of the model is made in China.

construction

The guitar is similar in construction to a Gibson Les Paul and is also largely made of the same woods. The body is 4.5 cm thick and has a mahogany base . In this base a 1 cm thick, is domed ceiling of maple wood glued.

The neck of the guitar is also made of mahogany, is glued into the body at the twelfth fret and equipped with an internal, H-shaped neck tensioning rod that is supposed to counteract any warping of the neck. The Super Swede has a scale length of 648 mm. The fingerboard of the guitar is not made from ebony , rosewood or maple wood, as is the case with many other electric guitar models , but from resinator wood . These are wooden sheets that are glued together in a vacuum . Due to its rigidity, the material also counteracts the warping of the neck.

Hagström's in-house electromagnetic pickups of the Hagström 58 type are used in the new edition of the instrument . They are arranged as in Les Paul models (one pickup each in neck and bridge position) and wired to the volume and tone controls as there. In contrast to Les Paul models, however, it is possible to switch the double -coil Hagström humbuckers as single-coil single-coil pickups .

The biggest difference to a Les Paul is the bridge used by Hagström . The company uses its in-house model. Each guitar string is fed individually through a cast block made of brass that is screwed twice . A 3 mm thick plexiglass plate is located between the cast block and the body in order to impair the vibrations of the strings as little as possible when playing the instrument. This maximum Ausschwingdauer the strings themselves should ( English : Sustain ) develop.

The in-house tuning machines are attached in a 3: 3 arrangement to the headstock of the guitar . The translation of the mechanics has a ratio of 18: 1 - this means that their axis turns once every 18 turns of the vortex wing.

According to the manufacturer's website, the Super Swede comes in the finishes Black gloss (black), White (white), Cosmic black burst (a transparent black), WCT flame maple (red with a translucent maple top), Vintage sunburst (a gradient from black on the edge orange in the middle of the body) and cherry sunburst (cherry red on the edge and orange towards the middle of the body).
