description

Habit with sharp-edged stems

Appearance and leaf

The grove forget-me-not is a mostly biennial, rarely perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of about 10 to 40 centimeters. It usually has no runners . It resembles the swamp forget-me-not ( Myosotis scorpioides ) in appearance . The stem is bare at the base or has hairs pointing downwards. There may also be plant specimens with protruding or upward hair. The stem is usually sharp-edged and shiny. The leaves are oblong-lanceolate and somewhat pointed. The lowest stem leaves are sometimes stalked and have non-lying hairs on the underside mostly directed towards the base of the leaves. The remaining stem leaves are sessile.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from May to August. The calyxes stand in coils that are greatly elongated after the anthesis . The diameter of the blue colored crown is no more than 6 millimeters. The fruit cup is no more than 5 millimeters long. The partial fruit has a maximum width of 0.8 millimeters.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The grove forget-me-not occurs from Scandinavia to Italy and the Balkans, as well as from France to Russia. In Austria it can be found in Tyrol, Salzburg, Lower and Upper Austria and Styria. In Germany it occurs mainly in the southern part. The general distribution of this species is still insufficiently known, as it was often not differentiated from the swamp forget-me-not .

The grove forget-me-nots grow in damp meadows, along ditches and in wet forest clearings. It is found particularly often in the eutrophic wet meadows of the Calthion palustris association.

Taxonomy

The first description of Myosotis nemorosa was made in 1821 by Wilibald Swibert Joseph Gottlieb von Besser . A synonym for Myosotis nemorosa Besser is Myosotis strigulosa Rchb.
