Hainer Hut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hainer Hütte was an ironworks in the Hain suburb of the Westphalian city of Siegen . The hut is considered to be the oldest steelworks in the Siegerland . She produced roll cast iron .

The Hainer hut was first in the years 1444/1445 as a place of smelting of ore mentioned. The Siegen suburb of Hain, whose name is still known today , emerged around them . A map of the city of Siegen from 1736 shows both the Hainer hut and a Hainer hammer on the banks of the Weiß river . In 1875 the smelter put a coke- powered blast furnace into operation. In addition to the ironworks, there were two foundries in Hain . The Peipers foundry existed from 1882, it and the smelter were connected to the Eisern-Siegen railway . The Hainer Hüttengewerkschaft was the largest shareholder in the railway in 1881. In 1916 the Hainer Hütte was attached to the Peipers foundry . With almost 50 employees, the smelter achieved an annual production of 20,000 t of special pig iron in 1924. Due to renovation work, the Hainer Hütte was shut down in April 1944. On December 16 of the same year it was damaged in the bombing raid on Siegen. Due to the damage and the lack of coke after the Second World War , it did not start operating again until 1951. In 1962 the hut was finally shut down completely.
