The Hainspitzer See is a lake near the East Thuringian village of Hainspitz and, with an area of around 6 hectares, is one of the largest natural lakes in Thuringia .
history
The late medieval moated castle Hainspitz was located on the south bank of the lake . Members of a ministerial dynasty of the Wettins called themselves after the Hainspitz settlement . They were mentioned in a document as early as 1132. During the Saxon Civil War in 1450, the moated castle was still occupied. During the Thirty Years War it burned down after being looted and fell into disrepair after being neglected.
Today only a flat hill and parts of the moat on the peninsula in the lake remain.
