Hajiya Aisha Abubakar

Hajiya Aisha Abubakar (born July 20, 1966 in Dongondaji , Sokoto ) is a Nigerian politician. Since 2015 she has held the office of Minister for Economy, Trade and Investment.

Life and education

Abubakar was born in Dongondaji, Sokoto State, as the daughter of former Finance Minister Alhaji Alhaji Abubakar . Between 1978 and 1984 she attended Queens College in Lagos . She then received her Bachelor of Arts in Politics from the University of Warwick in Warwickshire , England . She completed her Master of Arts in Development Studies at the University of Leeds in Leeds, England in 1991 .

Career and Political Career

Between 1993 and 1999 Aisha Abubakar worked in the African Development Bank as a "Senior Bilateral Co-operation Officer". From 2010 to 2013 she worked in the Abuja Enterprise Agency and reached the position of Manager Director. Since November 2015 she has been the Nigerian Minister for Economy, Trade and Investment. Abubakar has increasingly campaigned for the empowerment of women.
