The hakataramea river is a tributary of the Waitaki River in the region Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand . The river flows south through the Hakataramea Valley. This is separated from the Mackenzie Basin further inland by the Kirkliston Range .
The river flows through the settlement of Hakataramea and shortly thereafter flows northeast of Kurow into the Waitaki River.
