Hal Evans

Hal Evans (* 1906 ; † 1998 ) was an English composer, arranger, pianist and conductor.

Evans studied composition with Tobias Matthay and orchestration with Gordon Jacob at the Royal College of Music in London . From 1939 to 1945 he was a pianist, arranger and composer with the BBC . From 1945 he was music director at Pathé Films and conductor of the BBC Majestic Orchestra and worked as an arranger for the Luton Girls Choir and the Welsh Gwalia Choir . In 1949 he emigrated to Australia and settled in Sydney. Here he became Director of the Australian Performing Rights Association and President of the Fellowship of Australian Composers . He has composed more than 100 choral arrangements and has worked with composers and singers such as Irving Berlin , The Andrews Sisters , Vera Lynn and Julie Andrews .
