The half-time designated in many ball and especially Torspielen the time when half of the regular playing time has expired. In addition, half-time is a slang term for half.

Soccer

In a soccer game , both halves last 45 minutes. The half-time break in between is 15 minutes. The extensions are also divided into two halves of 15 minutes.

The stoppage time is usually not counted in half. The clock always starts at 45 minutes in the second half, even if there was stoppage time in the first half. The half-time break is associated with a change of sides between the two playing teams on the field.

Handball

The normal playing time for all teams from 16 years of age (A youth, adults) is 2 × 30 minutes effective playing time with a break of usually 10 minutes.

In cup games, tied goals can result in extra time after regular time has elapsed. This lasts 2 × 5 minutes with a 1-minute half-time break. If it is still a draw after that, a second extra time with 2 × 5 minutes with a 1-minute break at half-time will be played.

For youth teams the playing time is reduced as follows:

  • 2 × 25 minutes for ages 12 to 16 years (C and B youth); 10 minutes break
  • 2 × 20 minutes for ages 8 to 12 years (up to and including D-youth)

Underwater rugby

An underwater rugby game lasts 2 × 15 minutes of effective playing time with an interval of 5 minutes. In the event of a tie, there is an extra 15 minutes in play-off games, but with a golden goal .

In the case of free tournaments, the host can set the playing time as desired. Often, due to better planning, continuous time is used.
