The halter fairy bass ( Gramma linki ) is a species of fish from the fairy bass family (Grammatidae). The fish live in the outer reefs of the Caribbean from Puerto Rico and the Bahamas to the coast of Central America at greater depths of 27 to 130 meters, mostly below 40 meters, in the western Caribbean below 60 meters.

features

The seven to eight centimeters long fish is colored blue-gray. The top of the head and the back to the middle of the dorsal fin are golden yellow. Additional golden-yellow stripes run from the mouth to the rear edge of the gill cover . The scales on the back of the back and the sides of the body each have a yellow spot, creating a regular pattern of dots. The caudal fin is not forked, as in the king fairy bass , but is only slightly indented, the rear ends of the dorsal and anal fin are not pointed, but rounded.

Halstered fairy bass live tucked away in caves and often turn their ventral side towards the nearest substrate, i.e. that is, they can swim stomach up if they are closer to the cave ceiling than the floor.
