Haliplus lineatocollis is a beetle from the family of water treaders (Haliplidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 2 to 3 millimeters. The pronotum has an incised longitudinal line on both sides of the center. These lines are long, curved, and turned inwards at the top. They diverge with the side edge and are depressed transversely in between in front of the base. The upper wings have black rows of dots, the middle of them are closed at the base by a more powerful semicircular dot dimple. The disc of the wing cover is not or indistinctly spotted and often has faint blackish blemishes in the middle of the wing cover seam .

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed in Europe, including the Canaries , north to Denmark and south of Sweden. They can also be found in Asia Minor , North Africa, Ethiopia and Eritrea. The animals prefer to live in waters with a bog underground.
