The Halland-class is a class of destroyers in the Swedish Navy . It consists of the lead ship Halland (J18) and the Småland (J19). Two more ships were canceled in 1958.

History of the class

The two ships were laid down in Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstad AB in Gothenburg in 1952 and handed over to the Swedish Navy in 1956. During their service from 1956 to 1979 and 1982 they fulfilled the requirements of the task assigned to them in an emergency - the defense and prevention of an invasion of the Soviet Union via the Baltic Sea during the Cold War .

The whereabouts of J18 and J19

The HMS Halland was after useful life in 1988 after Spain sold and scrapped there.

Since retiring from active service in the Swedish Navy, the HMS Småland can be visited in the Göteborg Maritime Center, the largest ship museum in Scandinavia and one of the largest floating museums in the world. This is only a few 100 m away from the Eriksberg works, where the Halland class was built, on the other bank of the Göta älv .

Robot 08 : Version on wheel mount for use in coastal artillery

During a modernization in 1966, a launch device for Robot-08 anti -ship missiles from Saab and Nord Aviation incl. Magazine was installed, which was located in the rear of the ship in front of the second radar dish.
