Daniel Latussek (born January 1, 1787 in Groß Wartenberg , † August 17, 1857 in Breslau ) was auxiliary bishop and capitular vicar of Breslau .

Career

After attending the Matthias Gymnasium in Breslau , Daniel Latussek studied philosophy and theology at the University of Breslau . He was ordained a priest on September 21, 1811 . He then worked as a chaplain in Schalkowitz , in Rosenberg , in Ellguth-Turawa and in Groß-Strehlitz and from 1815 as a field preacher in France. In 1818 he became secretary at the Vicariate General in Breslau, where he received a benefit from the Electoral Chapel . From 1825 to 1829 he was pastor in Wansen , then director of the fire society of the diocesan clergy.

At the request of King Wilhelm III. In 1831 Latussek became the Breslau cathedral capitular as well as general vicariate and consistorial councilor . On February 12, 1838, Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . as titular bishop of Diana and auxiliary bishop in Breslau . The episcopal ordination took place on May 25, 1838 by the Breslau bishop Leopold von Sedlnitzky , who appointed him cathedral dean and vicar general in 1839 .

Since Latussek took Sedlnitzky's conciliatory attitude towards the Prussian government on the mixed marriages question , he was attacked by the ultramontane side and also lost influence after Sedlnitzky's resignation in 1840. Nevertheless, after the death of Prince-Bishop Joseph Knauer in 1844, the cathedral chapter elected him as vicar of the capitulars. In this office he continued the course loyal to Rome of the former vicar capitular Joseph Ignaz Ritter in the mixed marriages question and proceeded against the movement of the German Catholics under Johannes Ronge with church punishments.

In 1845 he was commissioned by Bishop Melchior von Diepenbrock with the administrative support of the Austrian diocese, in 1846 he was appointed provost of the cathedral and on June 28, 1847 again appointed vicar general. He was also diocesan administrator in 1849 while Bishop Diepenbrock was absent . After his death, the newly elected bishop Heinrich Förster reappointed him as vicar general.
