Hallormsstaður

Hallormsstaður is a settlement in the east of Iceland .
The place is on the east bank of the lake Lagarfljót , 26 km south of Egilsstaðir and can be reached from there via the Skriðdals- og Breiðdalsvegur and the Upphéraðsvegur . Hallormsstaður belongs to the municipality Fljótsdalshérað and emerged from a rectory with a church. A craft and home economics school was founded here in 1930. Before that, there was a private women's school here. The settlement Hallormsstaður has 48 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011) and is the only forest village in Iceland. The forestry station has been in Hallormsstaðaskógur since 1903 . In 1905 the area was placed under protection and later enlarged several times.
