Halparuntiya II

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Halparuntiya II was a late Hittite king of Gurgum and a son of Muwatalli II of Gurgum. In 855 or 853 he submitted to Sulmanu-ašared III. It is attested by a colossal statue found in Tell Tayinat , which is provided with a partially preserved inscription in hieroglyphic Luwish . On this a campaign is mentioned that he led against the cities of Iluwasi and Hirika (the latter possibly Ḫilakku in Cilicia or Ḫiliki, a border town of the territory of Melid ). It is believed that it is to be equated with the Qalparunda attested from Assyrian sources .
