Hambüren is a farming community with the Velpe settlement in the municipality of Westerkappeln in the Westphalian Tecklenburger Land with around 1039 inhabitants.

Velpe settlement

The settlement south of Westerkappeln houses an old water mill, which is also home to the gallery of the late Velper painter Gustav Künnemann , as well as the Velpe house , which was a manor until 1879 . Thanks to its location in the immediate vicinity of the Lotte-Osnabrück motorway junction, Velpe can be easily reached via the federal motorway 30 and the federal motorway 1 . The Velpe (Westf) station , located on the Löhne – Rheine railway line and the disused Perm Railway , is no longer served by passenger traffic. Due to the industrial area Westerkappeln-Velpe in the Industriestraße, Velpe is an important place for the economic infrastructure in the region, many citizens of Velpes and the surrounding areas find work there.

The house Velpe was a fief of the county Tecklenburg and was owned by the family of Velpe. Ownership changed to Georg von Holle in 1565, to von Kerssenbrock in 1575, to von Münster in 1590, to von Meyher in 1630 and to von Grüter and von Siegroth in the 18th century. Heinrich Dietrich Tilée bought the entire building unit in 1801. After several changes of ownership, the Echterhoff family acquired the estate in 1898. As a registered manor, the Velpe house was deleted on January 25, 1879. The original mansion was replaced by a new building. The gatehouse and part of the moat have been preserved .

Events

One of the biggest events in Velpe is the vintage car meeting on May 1st . The meeting first took place in 1974. The focus is on an approx. 50 km orientation drive through the Tecklenburger Land . The starting point is at the Gasthaus Mühleneck .
