The Hamburg fish market in Stuttgart is an annual, multi-day festival on Karlsplatz . Since 1987, it has been inviting visitors to the Baden-Württemberg state capital in July to taste the Hanseatic lifestyle. The event and the name go back to the traditional Altona fish market in Hamburg .

description

At the event, North German restaurateurs will prepare and offer fish in different ways. One of the main attractions is the fried fish tower, where every time the bell rings, dozens of portions of fried fish are carried down a helical chute onto a tray and then served with garlic sauce or tartar sauce. Dozens of stalls have all sorts of things from the sea, and fruit and plant sellers also offer their goods. Around ten tons of fresh seafood and fish - fried, smoked or deep-fried - are consumed by visitors every year. There is crab bread, fish pan, king prawns, scampi noodles or lobster tail. Labskaus is one of the specialties . The whole thing is accompanied by songs from the north. Celebrities at the fish market are Aale-Dieter, Käse-Tommi and Bananen-Fred, who advertise their goods with loud slogans. In addition, the visitors receive free language courses in "Hamburgerisch".

In return, the Stuttgart wine village made a guest appearance in the Hanseatic city until 2015 . The organizers from the Swabian region were allowed to set up their stalls for eleven days free of charge on the central Hamburg town hall market. But in 2016 there were financial turmoil. The event was canceled because Hamburg demanded increased court fees. Until then, the Hanseatic city had invoiced 46,000 euros for the additional six days of the 17-day event. But from now on suddenly a total of around 125,000 euros should be paid. As a result, the hamburgers at their fish market in Stuttgart - Karlsplatz belongs to the state - were charged 28,000 euros for space rent.
