Hamburg reading books

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hamburg Reading Books are a series of text editions of literary texts published by the Hamburger Reading Books Verlag , Husum . The texts are offered at a reasonable price and are mainly used as teaching material in German lessons . In this area, they compete with the more well-known series “ Reclam's Universal Library ”.

The book series was initially published by Hermann Laatzen Verlag , Hamburg. After the death of the publisher Carl Iselt , the publishing house was taken over in January 1974 by the successor company of his parent company, the Husum Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft .

The editions published so far include not only well-known classics, but also North German authors such as Theodor Storm etc.

So far, over 250 volumes have been published, of which around 200 volumes are currently available (as of April 2020). The thinner volumes are stapled , the thicker volumes are perfect bound . The title page always shows a stylized picture of the book's content. In addition to the primary text, there are also word explanations and an afterword at the end of the book. Usually biographical notes are also included.
