Today's Hamburg Sailing Club eV was founded on October 7, 1892 as the Hamburg Yacht Club . As early as 1899, the club with 424 members was one of the three largest German sailing clubs . This was based on a wide range of members from hiking and regatta sailors and also yacht designers such as Max Oertz . In 1926 the Hamburg Yacht Club and the Hamburg Sailing Club , which had previously split off, merged under the current name. The association has been registered in the Hamburg register of associations since January 1, 1927. The German Admiral's Cup winner Hans-Otto Schümann was chairman of the club between 1958 and 1999, then honorary chairman and a commodore until his death in 2014 .
Today 720 members are organized in the HSC, the area with the clubhouse is located directly on the Alster in the center of Hamburg and offers space for around 280 boats with the harbor.
Sporting successes
In 2014 the club started in the 2nd division of the newly introduced nationwide club competition in German sailing. In 2016 he was promoted to the German Sailing League .
The HSC Women's Team reached 3rd place at the Helga Cup in 2018 and 2nd place in 2019.
