history

The establishment of the oldest parent club "Barmbeck-Uhlenhorster Turnverein von 1876" (founded June 21, 1876) marked the beginning of today's HTBU. At that time was still in economies gymnastics, and only in 1885, the club was in the gymnasium of the elementary school Wandsbek (today Dehnhaide) to move.

On July 1, 1909, there was a merger with the “Men's Gymnastics Club Barmbeck-Uhlenhorst”, founded in October 1888, and the “Barmbeck Gymnastics Club of 1902” founded on March 15, 1902, to form the Hamburg Gymnastics Association Barmbeck-Uhlenhorst .

On October 15, 1923 , HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst split off as part of the “clean divorce” between gymnastics and sport, which had been decreed by the German Gymnastics Association , in which the game departments - especially soccer and handball - of the HTBU were united . In 1924 the gym on Klinikweg became the gymnastics home of the club.

In 1926 the association celebrated its 50th anniversary. The club member Arthur Opaetz was awarded the honorary letter of the German Gymnastics Association, the club members Beckendorf, Mackenroth and Hinrichsen were awarded the honorary letter of the gymnastics group by school councilor Prof. Meyer. The festival program included gymnastics, handball games and relay races.

Extensive celebrations for the 60th anniversary took place in 1936. On August 30, 1936, an exhibition gymnastics took place in the city park and on the sports field on the plane tree avenue. The gymnasts had marched in a procession from the Klinikweg and the Schaudinsweg branch towards the city park. On October 11, 1936, the final festive event with various performances and gymnastics took place in the sold-out Wandsbeck City Theater.

After the nights of bombing in 1943 and the total collapse in 1945 , some women and men came together to dare to start over. Despite hunger and cold, sport was resumed in autumn 1945 on Langenfort and Fraenkelstraße. The club name was adapted to the official spelling of the district of Barmbek (without the extension 'c'), which was changed in 1946 .

In 1966 the company moved into the large gym at Klinikweg 10, which had been built in the previous years.

Extension to the hall of the HTBU

In 1967 the Hamburg twelve-fight championship in artistic gymnastics took place there, won by Rolf Meinel.

The festival ball for the 100th anniversary was celebrated in May 1976 in the Congress Center . Among the guests was Hans Apel , who was born in Barmbek and Federal Minister of Finance .

Through the merger of the HTBU with the "Turngemeinschaft Alster Hamburg Eimsbüttel eV" (TG Alster) in 1998, the club was given a greater say in other associations in the Hanseatic city.

successes

In 1924 and 1925 the gymnasts of the HTBU were the German champions in fistball and in 1926 and 1928 in handball . For years, the best gymnasts were in the city ranks of Hamburg. Worth mentioning here is Walter Behrens , who became North German Champion in 1936 and German Champion in Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Pomerania and Westphalia in 1941.
