Hamilcar S. Alivizatos

Hamilcar S. Alivizatos , also Hamilcar Spyridonos Alivisatos , ( Greek Αμίλκας Αλιβιζάτος Amilkas Alivizatos , born May 17, 1887 in Lixouri ; † August 12, 1969 ) was a Greek church historian and president of the Academy of Athens .

biography

Alivizatos studied theology at the University of Athens , where Dr. theol. 1908, and then at universities in Europe. In 1938 he received the Doctor of Divinity , DD, in Oxford , he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Saloniki in 1960 . He was a theology professor in Athens

In 1914 he was appointed to a commission that reformed canon law, later he became a member of the Academy of Athens and finally its president. He was State Procurator in the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Greece.

Together with his wife Irene he collected Cycladic art, which he donated to the Academy of Athens. In 1992 the Academy's entire collection of art objects was donated to the Goulandis Museum, including the Alivizatos collection.

Act

Alivizatos represented the Greek Orthodox Church at congresses and towards the Greek state and was at the same time one of its reformers. Alivizatos applies next Konstantinos Dyovouniotis (1872 - 1943), Demetrios S. Balanos (also Mpalanos) (1877 - 1959), Panagiotis Bratsiotis (Παναγιώτης Μπρατσιώτης) Panagiotes Nikolaou Trempelas (also: Trembelas) (1886 - 1977), and Christos Androutsos ( 1869–1935), as a major modern Greek theologian. His work is widely cited in contemporary theological and canonical orthodox literature.
