Hamilton Temple
The Hamilton New Zealand Temple (originally New Zealand Temple ) is the eleventh temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). It stands in a suburb just outside of Hamilton, New Zealand and was built in a modern style with only one tower, similar to the Bern Temple . It was the first in the southern hemisphere and the second outside of North America after the Bern Temple.
The temple has 4,107 square meters of floor space, an endowment room, three sealing rooms and a baptistery . The tower is 48 meters high and one of the few that does not carry an angel Moroni , as is usual with this denomination. The temple was built entirely by volunteer work by Mormon missionaries, who were supported by local church members with money, food and accommodation. Before the dedication, the temple was open to the public from March 28 to April 19, 1958, during which time it was visited by 112,500 people.
