Paul Hamlyn

Paul Hamlyn, Baron Hamlyn (born: Paul Bertrand Wolfgang Hamburger ; * February 12, 1926 in Berlin ; † August 31, 2001 in London ) was a German-British publicist and philanthropist. He was the brother of Michael Hamburger .

Life

Paul Hamlyn was born in Berlin. His father Richard Hamburger was a doctor at the children's clinic at the Berlin Charité. After the National Socialists came to power, the family emigrated to Great Britain. She first lived in Edinburgh and then moved to London, where her father opened a pediatric practice.

When Paul Hamburger was 14 years old, his father died and he changed his family name to "Hamlyn".

The first marriage to Eileen Watson had two children, Michael and Jane. Hamlyn began a career as a publicist in 1949, and in 1965 founded a record label, as well as the Paul Hamlyn Group and the Octopus Publishing Group .

In 1970 Paul Hamlyn married Helen Guest, who survived Paul Hamlyn. In 1993 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire and five years later was named the British Life Peer of Gloucestershire .

On February 23, 1998, he was promoted to Life Peer with the title Baron Hamlyn , of Edgeworth in the County of Gloucestershire .
