The Hammergraben near Neuwied is a moat that has existed since the second half of the 18th century and was expanded around 1810 to operate a hammer mill . It was also used in part to deliver industrial water to the Rasselstein company .

The name goes back to Pasterts Hammer , which was previously located on the Wiedknie and was built in 1696 by the new Peter Pastert. In 1823 the lower reaches of the Hammergraben was extended and is still used today for the loading of products and the supply of the Rasselstein.

Today the Hammergraben flows through the Rasselstein company for forwarding and as industrial water, laid in pipes, and ends in Irlich , near the mouth of the Wied, in the Wied.
