Hammock is an American band that has its origins in Nashville , Tennessee and consists of the two guitarists Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson.

history

Hammock came about when Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson met occasionally for non-binding jam sessions as part of their respective songwriting projects. At that time this happened without the intention to publish the resulting sound material. This was finally released in 2005 under the title Kenotic as the band's first release. In the same year Hammock also recorded a cover version of the song Black Metallic by the British band Catherine Wheel .

In 2007, Byrd and Thompson received an offer from Jón Þór Birgisson (guitarist and singer for Sigur Rós ) and Alex Somers (graphic designer) to help them make their first appearance outside Iceland at a club in Arkansas. The artist couple, who also lived together privately, was doing a project called Riceboy Sleeps at the time. Hammock accepted the offer and wrote new songs for their upcoming gig alone, which were later summarized and published on the third album Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow . The artwork for this album was done by Birgisson and Somers.

Tim Powles ( The Church ) helped Hammock produce their fourth album Chasing After Shadows ... Living With The Ghosts in 2010 . Powles became aware of Byrd and Thompson with their second album Raising Your Voice ... Trying To Stop An Echo . In the same year a four-song EP with outtakes and the Longest Year EP was also released .

In 2011 the EP Asleep In The Downlights appeared , on which Tim Powles and Steve Kilbey from The Church also played. In 2012 the double album Departure Songs followed . After the release of a compilation with songs from previous EPs and singles plus some remixes, the sixth studio album Oblivion Hymns was released in November 2013 .

The Sleepover Series, Volume 2 was released on September 23, 2014 . Hammock's ninth album, Everything and Nothing , was released on April 1st, 2016. Her tenth album, Mysterium was released on August 25th, 2017 and the follow-up to it was released on December 7th, 2018, entitled Universalis.

In 2019 the album Undercurrents was released, which is expanded throughout the year with a monthly song. On September 27, 2019, the band also announced their new album Silencia on their Facebook page, which will be released on November 15, 2019.
