It tells of a campaign by the Urartian king Argišti I. Argišti tells how he defeated the land of Tariu and moved on on his way. He went to the land of Huša , in the land of Biani, and entered the land of Ašqalaši . According to the will of the great god Ḫaldi , Argišti says:

“The king of Diaueḫe appeared before me in the area of Ahuruani city. I threw away the army (?), I destroyed the area of the city of Ka [...] uni. I captured (?) Here: 72080 cattle, 7000 + x people. I killed some and left the others alive. I destroyed six fortresses, I burned 50 cities. "

The most important information of the Hanak inscription is its location, as it confirms a Urartean presence in the area of Lake Çıldır. The inscription is not one of the summarizing res gestae used in Tušpa or the great fortresses to describe the reign of a king, but was made on - or more likely after - a successful campaign in the conquered territories. It is not known in which territory Hanak was: Tariu and Diauehe would be possible.

Dinçöl and Dinçöl want to equate Tariu with Hanak. Biani and Huša would then have to be north of it, as well as Ašqalaši and Aḫuria, and the borders of Diaueḫe could extend to Georgia .
