Sedat Alp

Sedat Alp (born January 1, 1913 in Selanik, today's Thessaloniki , † October 9, 2006 ) was one of the most important Turkish Hittitologists .

Alp studied from 1932, first in Leipzig , then in Berlin , where he was in 1940 with the work of research on the official name in Hittite hard ceremonial doctorate . For many years he taught at Ankara University . Alp was considered an expert in ancient Anatolian geography, dealt with ancient Anatolian art, language, law and culture.

Alp was a member of the German Archaeological Institute and a corresponding member of the humanities and social science class of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz . In 1997 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Würzburg . In 1998 he became a member of the British Academy .
