The 1. AFC Hanau Hawks eV was a German American football club . It was founded in 1979, making it one of the oldest German American football clubs. It was dissolved in 1999 due to financial problems. The Hanau Hornets , which also took over the Hawks' Bundesliga license, were founded as the successor club.

history

During its existence, the club played 17 seasons in the Bundesliga and two years (1983 and 1992) in the second Bundesliga. The Hawks were able to reach the semi-finals of the German Bowl four times , but they were always denied the step into the final. Only four times did the Hawks not reach the playoffs. Shortly before their dissolution in 1999, the Hawks were also internationally successful. In 1998 they won the Federation Cup, the predecessor of the EFAF Cup, against the Graz Giants in their own stadium .
