fire
On the night of June 22nd to 23rd, 2019, a devastating major fire occurred in the Strausberg trading center, which caused damage worth millions. On Saturday evening at around 8 p.m. local time, shortly after the shop had closed, the fire hit the ceiling of the electronics store and quickly spread to the entire front shopping area. The first fire fighters arrived at around 8:30 p.m. In total, over 170 fire fighters from the entire Märkisch-Oderland region were on duty with around 45 vehicles during the night. The developing column of smoke was visible as far as Berlin. On the morning of June 23, the fire was brought under control and finally extinguished. Four shops are completely destroyed. The main hall is currently being checked for the risk of collapse. The origin of the fire is believed to be a burning pile of tires in the adjacent car workshop. Further action on the part of the owner has not yet been announced. In the meantime, a part (to the left of the main entrance) has been demolished (as of June 2020).
