history

On July 19, 1900, the Mecklenburg Chamber of Crafts was founded in Schwerin , its district included the states of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz . The Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Ministry, Department of the Interior, oversaw the chamber. All members and the members of the journeymen's committee were invited to the first ordinary general assembly. The founding president was the Schwerin court mason Ludwig Clewe .

The task of the Chamber of Crafts was to represent the overall interests of the craft, regulate the apprenticeship system and observe the regulations applicable to the apprenticeship system, as well as to support the state and municipal authorities in promoting the craft. Other tasks included publicly setting up and swearing in experts, advising on requests and applications from the trades and establishing contact with the authorities, and forming examination boards. A committee was formed to decide on objections to resolutions of the examination committees (appeal committee). One of his tasks was to keep a register ( handicrafts register ) in which everyone who independently carried out a trade was to be entered.

In 1904 the Chamber of Crafts bought three eighths of the quarter house on Grenadierstrasse (today's Friedensstrasse 4) as its own building, where an office and a permanent commercial exhibition were set up. In 1910 the chamber area stretched over 16,000 square kilometers with 728,000 inhabitants and counted 509 guilds with around 18,000 businesses.

1933 began eventful years for the chamber organization. The status and sovereign activity of the chamber were repeatedly changed until after 1945 it was placed under sole state sovereignty. At the turn of 1990, the rebuilding of the Chamber of Crafts began to become a self-governing organization. Since then, elected employers and employees from the craft businesses have formed the 24-member plenary assembly as the highest body (16 employers, 8 employees).

Education and technology center of the Schwerin Chamber of Crafts

In the mid-1990s, the Schwerin Chamber of Crafts established an educational facility on Werkstrasse. The education and technology center is used to provide specialist staff for craft and industrial sectors and to impart specific work techniques.

As a master school, the education and technology center offers theoretical and practical master training for electrical engineering, plumbing and heating construction, metal construction, automotive engineering, hairdressing, tiled stove and air heating construction, painters and varnishers as well as carpenters. The interdisciplinary parts III and IV are offered both part-time and full-time.

In addition, commercial-legal and technical training courses are carried out, for example the certified business economist according to the craft regulations (HWK), the commercial specialist (HWK), the building energy consultant (HWK) or the restorer in the craft. The craft businesses are also supported by the training center in training their youngsters. The inter-company apprenticeship training in the education and technology center supplements the training in the company with special content and techniques.
