Hangthwaite Castle
Hangthwaite Castle is an Outbound castle north of the district Scawthorpe market Doncaster in English administrative unit South Yorkshire .
history
Hangthwaite Castle was a moth erected for Nigel Fozzard after the Norman conquest of England in the 11th century . The moth was surrounded by a wide moat; the bean-shaped outer bailey was in the east, the little mound in the northwest of the complex. The latter could also have been a barbican .
In the 13th century, a fortified house called the Radcliffe Moat replaced the castle as a local fortress.
Today only the mound and a few trenches of the moth can be seen. The facility is now called Castle Hill in Doncaster and a primary school nearby also bears this name.
