Hannibal al-Gaddafi ( Arabic هانيبال القذافي, DMG Hānībāl al-Qaḏḏāfī ; * September 20, 1975 in Tripoli ) is the fifth son of the former Libyan ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi with his second wife Safaja Farkasch .

Hannibal Gaddafi is a graduate of the Military Academy in Libya. It attracted attention in 2004 when it drove down the Paris Champs-Elysées at 140 kilometers an hour . He was involved in a number of violent incidents. On July 15, 2008, he and his current wife, Aline Skaf, were arrested in Geneva after two domestic workers reported him. The allegation was serious mistreatment. A doctor called by the police found fresh injuries. The arrest sparked the Swiss Libya affair . Violence was also reported later. On December 11, 2015, Hannibal al-Gaddafi was kidnapped from Syria to Lebanon in order to extort information about the whereabouts of the Lebanese Shiite leader Musa al-Sadr , who disappeared in Libya in 1978. He was released shortly afterwards. A few days later, Gaddafi, whose wife is Lebanese, appeared on Lebanese television. Apparently he had been mistreated. A judge issued an arrest warrant on charges that Gaddafi was withholding information on the Musa al-Sadr case. Since then he has been imprisoned in Lebanon in poor health (as of January 2019). In December 2016, Gaddafi supporters hijacked Afriqiyah Airways flight 209 , u. a. to reprieve Hannibal Gaddafi. This was unsuccessful.
