Hanno Sahlmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hanno Sahlmann (* in Hamburg ) is a German theoretical physicist who deals with loop quantum gravity.

Life

Sahlmann studied at the University of Göttingen with a diploma in 1999 and a doctorate in 2002 from the University of Potsdam (Coupling Matter to Loop Quantum Gravity). As a post-doctoral student he was at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam / Golm, where he was already doing his dissertation with Thomas Thiemann , at the Pennsylvania State University , the Spinoza Institute in Utrecht and in 2008 at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . In 2010 he became a professor at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

research

Sahlmann recognized around 2000 that the uniqueness of the quantization rules of loop quantum gravity could be shown, but the proof dragged on for several years and was published in 2006 (Ashtekar called the LOST result). (Christian Fleischhack managed this independently).

With Thomas Thiemann and O. Winkler, he proposed a semiclassical approach to space-time based on loop quantum gravity.

In 2005 he received the Physics Prize from the Göttingen Academy of Sciences for his important contributions to loop quantum gravity .
